Lexington Police partners with Middlesex Sheriff’s Office on interactive, scenario-based training

LEXINGTON, Mass. – Members of the Lexington Police Department recently completed interactive, scenario-based training in collaboration with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO), Chief Mark Corr and Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced today.

In total, 44 members of the Lexington Police Department participated in the training between July 20 – 24.

The MSO’s Mobile Training Center – or MTC – is a specialized trailer that allows officers to train for responses to incidents including traffic stops and calls for individuals in crisis, as well as workplace and domestic violence situations.  MSO deputies who operate the MTC can provide unique scenarios for each user to test their communications, de-escalation and firearms skills.

Officers who go through the MTC are accompanied by departmental instructors who are able to provide immediate feedback for each scenario.

“We’re proud to work with Chief Corr and our Lexington Police Department partners to facilitate this critical training,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “The scenarios require officers to utilize the totality of their training and experience – especially the communication and de-escalation skills they are called on to use in the field each and every day.”

“Each year, Lexington invests in this training to prepare officers for difficult situations that may arise unexpectedly,” said Lexington Police Chief Mark Corr. “It is important for the community to know how we pursue these opportunities, and I deeply appreciate the support of Sheriff Koutoujian and his staff,” he added.

The MTC was purchased by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office with federal grant funds in 2010 and has been utilized by numerous local municipal and university police departments.  In 2019, two dozen agencies including police departments in Acton, Malden and Medford utilized the MTC.
