The primary mission of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit is to provide security at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, providing perimeter security, narcotics detection capabilities and support in the event of disturbances.
The K-9 Unit also supports municipal police departments in the Commonwealth with searches for lost or missing persons, narcotics detection, and crowd control details. The unit also partners with many public and private schools to conduct zero tolerance narcotics searches throughout the year.
Additionally, the MSO K-9 Unit serves in a community outreach capacity, providing public demonstrations at schools and public events to educate and promote the use of police dogs in the community. These events also serve as an opportunity for the MSO to discuss important information about child safety and community safety issues.
