Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley and Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced today that 92 local officers recently cMobile Training Center at Medford Police Headquartersompleted interactive, scenario-based training facilitated by the sheriff’s office.

This is the fourth consecutive year the sheriff’s office partnered with the Medford Police Department on the training.  This year’s sessions were conducted September 12-23 in Medford.

Utilizing the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center (MTC), Medford officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios focused on the effective use of de-escalation skills, as well as responses to disturbances and active shooter incidents.  Following each scenario, Medford PD trainers and officers discussed and assessed the responses.

“The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office’s Mobile Training Center enables police officers to work on skills and tactics that need a real-life atmosphere to properly learn and enhance those skills and tactics.  Each scenario challenges the officers to use their de-escalation and communication skills as well as having to use various defensive tactics to defend the public and the officers from violence,” said Chief Buckley.  “I would like to thank Sheriff Peter Koutoujian for allowing our officers the opportunity to participate in this form of training.”

“The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with Chief Buckley and members of the Medford Police Department to make this important training available,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “By facilitating this interactive, scenario-based training, we are helping officers reinforce skills and techniques that are critical to effective policing – particularly around communication and de-escalation.”

In 2021, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office worked with 32 agencies to facilitate the training including the police departments in Arlington, Malden & Stoneham.
