The training was conducted December 20-23 in Malden. This marked the second consecutive year Malden PD utilized the MTC, sending 58 officers through the training center in June 2021.

Over the four days, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that focused on the effective use of de-escalation skills, as well as responses to disturbances and active shooter incidents.  Following each scenario Malden PD officers and trainers discussed and assessed the responses.

“The Malden Police Department is grateful for the opportunity to utilize the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center. Training is the cornerstone to critical thinking when officers are in high-stress situations,” said Chief Cronin. “These training scenarios force officers to react under extreme pressure and quickly develop tactics and strategies to mitigate a wide variety of situations. One of the greatest benefits is the ability for the officer to interact with subjects which develops crucial de-escalation skills.”

“The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with Chief Cronin and the Malden Police Department to make this vital training available for our local law enforcement partners,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “By facilitating this interactive, scenario-based training, we are helping officers reinforce skills and techniques that are critical to effective policing – particularly around communication and de-escalation.”
