Project EARTH (Education and Rehabilitation Through Horticulture) was launched in 2023 on the grounds of the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction. Project EARTH provides incarcerated individuals an opportunity to work in a hands-on, therapeutic farm environment.
Incarcerated men and women who participate in Project EARTH take part in classes focused on the maintenance and care of animals, plants, and crops. Participants tend to and harvest fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs from garden beds, an orchard, and a greenhouse. They also have the opportunity to work with chickens, hens, and bees.
A portion of items harvested may be donated to local food pantries, while others are used on the grounds of the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction.
