Sheriff visits Community Work Program crew assisting Waltham Housing Authority

WALTHAM – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian visited the Chesterbrook Gardens public housing complex in Waltham Wednesday, March 9 to check on the progress of work being completed by the Sheriff’s Community Work Program (CWP).

“It was great to visit Chesterbrook Gardens and see the cleanup work being done by our crew,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “This is a tremendous way for our inmates to give back to the community.  It is also an important reentry tool as it allows inmates preparing for release to get back into an everyday work routine.”

This week the three member crew was focused on cleaning and clearing outdoor recreation spaces at the complex.

CWP crews are comprised of supervised teams of three to five inmates nearing the completion of their sentences.  They conduct painting, cleanup and other projects under the direct and constant supervision of a correction officer.  All inmates have successfully completed individualized treatment plans (which may include substance abuse, educational/ vocational and other programming) and have been screened and approved for participation.

“I want to thank Sheriff Koutoujian and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office for assisting us with recent cleanup and painting projects,” said Waltham Housing Authority Executive Director Jon Gollinger.  “These projects help the City of Waltham out tremendously, completing work we may not be able to do otherwise.  We look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.”
