Koutoujian, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis today visited the John and Christina Markey Malden Senior Community Center for a senior safety seminar.

The discussion – attended by seniors from across the city – focused primarily on elder protection, emerging scams and fraud prevention.

“Today’s event was a great opportunity for us to provide local seniors with tools to not only protect themselves, but also their friends and loved ones,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “As scammers become more advanced in their methods, it is crucial that we continue to help educate community members about the best and simplest ways to avoid becoming victims.”

“We hope that today's event helped to educate seniors on ways to protect their personal and financial safety,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Many of the scams directed at seniors flourish in secrecy because potential victims are afraid to alert authorities or their loved ones. If anyone believes they are at risk for being a victim of a scam they should not hesitate to contact police.”

“I greatly appreciate the Sheriff and District Attorney coming to speak to our seniors today,” said Chief Molis.  “Effective public safety requires collaboration and leadership, and that’s exactly what today’s presentation featured. Creating awareness and working together to educate the public is critical in preventing more people from being victimized by these scams.”
