Speaking at the club’s weekly luncheon, Sheriff Koutoujian talked with members about groundbreaking initiatives for individuals being held at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction including the Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUMV), a program designed to provide specialized treatment for incarcerated veterans.  HUMV is the only such unit inside a state or county correctional facility in Massachusetts.

The sheriff also discussed community-based efforts like the Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA), a summer program designed for youngsters ages 8-12 living in communities across the county.  Over the past two summers, an average of more than 45 children from Waltham have participated in the program.

“I want to thank the Rotary Club of Waltham for the opportunity to discuss the critical work we are doing,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “Every day, the men and women of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office work to enhance public safety, improve outcomes for those in our custody and provide educational opportunities for local residents.”
