Reading Man Pleads Guilty in Conspiring to Smuggle Items into the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian confirmed today that David Perry, 59, of Reading, pled guilty on Thursday to charges of delivering an article to a prisoner in a correctional institution and conspiring to smuggle items into the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction.  Perry was sentenced to two years in the house of correction with one year to serve and the balance suspended for two years.

During October of 2016, Perry, a licensed attorney, conspired with Derek Bouchard, 40, of Roxbury, then a detainee at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, to deliver an item, suspected to be Suboxone, during visits occurring at the jail. On two separate occasions Perry utilized the privilege of his attorney-client relationship to pass these items to Bouchard.

The conspiracy was first uncovered during an internal investigation conducted by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.  The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, conducted the subsequent investigation.

Bouchard pled guilty to conspiracy on April 5, 2019, and was sentenced to not less than 3 nor more than 5 years committed to state prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christopher Tarrant.
