MSO hosts international delegation

Mexican officials visited Middlesex Jail & House of Correction

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J Koutoujian welcomed a delegation of federal and state corrections professionals from Mexico for an official visit of the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction on Tuesday, August 9.

“It was an honor to welcome this international delegation,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian.  “We are incredibly proud of the work we are doing, and I hope our colleagues were able to take home valuable information and ideas for programs and initiatives they might want to implement in their own facilities.”

Members of the delegation, including Federal Prisons Commissioner Eduardo Guerrero Duran, were visiting Massachusetts to participate in the American Correctional Association’s Congress of Correction, taking place in Boston August 5-10.  Officials from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, which was hosting the delegation in Boston, also participated in the visit.

Members of the delegation spent several hours at the facility, first hearing welcoming remarks from Sheriff Koutoujian and Commissioner Duran, before touring intake, the health services unit and Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUMV), among other portions of the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction.
