Littleton and Boxborough Police complete training utilizing Middlesex Sheriff's Office Mobile Training Center

BILLERICA, Mass – Members of the Littleton and Boxborough Police Departments recently completed interactive, scenario-based firearms training utilizing the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center (MTC), Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian, Littleton Police Chief Matthew King and Boxborough Police Chief Warren B. Ryder announced today.

During training exercises, officers are placed in a realistic environment and must be prepared for situations that occur at night, inside buildings, in crowds, at vehicle stops and other low visibility or high-risk incidents. Officers practice using verbalization, decision making, moving targets and alternative uses of force to respond to a variety of scenarios. One hundred percent of the ammunition discharged is captured, preventing contamination to soil and groundwater that may occur in outdoor ranges.

“The Mobile Training Center is an extremely valuable resource we are pleased to be able to share with our local law enforcement partners,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “The scenarios officers are put through accurately portray events ranging from traffic stops to active shooter situations, and the interactive capabilities of the technology allows officers to complete their firearms training, while also working on their communications and de-escalation skills.”

“In our roles as police officers is it vital that we are prepared for every type of situation,” Chief Ryder said. “Through our partnership with the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, we are able to use the Mobile Training Center to give officers the opportunity to safely refine their skills through interactive training modules.”

“The Mobile Training Center is a valuable resource for the Littleton Police Department because it gives officers the opportunity to train in a realistic environment on a number of different scenarios,” Chief King said. “We’d like to thank the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office for helping us better protect and serve our community.”

The MTC was purchased by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office with federal grant funds in 2010 and is made available to law enforcement agencies across the county.

The recent training was completed on site in Littleton during the week of July 17-21.
