Chief Bongiorno, Sheriff Koutoujian announce Bedford Police complete interactive, scenario-based training

Mobile Training Center exteriorBedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno and Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian today announced that 21 members of the Bedford Police Department recently completed interactive, scenario-based training utilizing the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office’s (MSO) Mobile Training Center (MTC).  The training was conducted between March 1-5.

The MTC is a specialized trailer that provides officers the ability to train for situations they may encounter during their daily duties.  Adaptive video scenarios displayed within the trailer require officers to use a host of skills – particularly communication and de-escalation.

Members of the Bedford Police Department participated in scenarios that focused on domestic disturbances, traffic stops and calls where mental health was a primary factor.

“We are proud to collaborate with Chief Bongiorno and Bedford PD on this important training,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “The MTC is an incredible tool for agencies across Middlesex County because it allows officers to train for real life scenarios using the full range of their skills, while getting immediate feedback from instructors.”

“The MTC helps prepare officers for real life scenarios and is an important resource for law enforcement agencies,” Chief Bongiorno said.  “Trainings like these help ensure our officers are providing the best possible service and protection for our residents by teaching them what to expect and how to react during certain situations.  We are grateful to have been able to utilize this incredible resource thanks to the Middlesex Sheriff's Office.”

“The Bedford Police Department has shown a great commitment to following the best police practices and this training is just one example of that,” Town Manager Sarah Stanton said.  “Thank you to the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office for providing this training opportunity.”

The MTC was purchased by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office with federal grant funds in 2010 and has been utilized by numerous local municipal and university police departments.  In 2020, more than 875 officers took part in training on the MTC.
