Statement of Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian Regarding the Sentencing of Raymond Wallace

On July 31, 2013 Raymond Wallace launched a violent and vicious assault on two Middlesex Sheriff’s officers inside the Mass. Eye & Ear Infirmary - a hospital crowded with patients, staff and visitors.

Officers Sean Lee and Jonathan Persson were escorting Wallace to a routine and scheduled medical appointment. In an instant, they found themselves under attack by an individual with a violent criminal history.

Officer Persson was shot and wounded during the assault. But the quick and decisive actions of Officers Persson and Lee stopped Wallace from escaping the building and reigning terror in the heart of the city.

The efforts of Officer Persson and Officer Lee were nothing short of heroic and surely prevented countless others from being injured or killed by Wallace.

As they did on that day, Officers Persson and Lee have continued to do their jobs with incredible professionalism and dedication, even as the outcome of this case has lingered for a decade.
