Lexington Police Department and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office announce the completion of interactive, scenario-based training

Utilizing the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center (MTC), Lexington officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios focused on the effective use of de-escalation skills, as well as responses to work place disturbances and active shooter incidents. Following each scenario, Lexington trainers and officers discussed and assessed the responses.

The training sessions were conducted July 18-22 in Lexington.

“A transparent training program that actively meets the demands of the community are paramount in policing,” said Chief McLean.  “The Lexington Police Department is dedicated to use of force training with heavy emphasis on the use of de-escalation tactics and techniques.  We are fortunate to collaborate each year with Sheriff Koutoujian and his staff from the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office who provide this vital, real-time training to all of our officers.”

“Each day the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office works with law enforcement, criminal justice and community stakeholders to enhance public safety across our 54 cities and towns,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “By working with Chief McLean and his team to facilitate this interactive, scenario-based training, we are helping officers reinforce skills and techniques that are critical to effective policing – particularly around communication and de-escalation.”

In 2021, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office worked with 32 agencies to facilitate the training including the police departments in Arlington, Malden, Medford & Stoneham.
