[ARCHIVED] Chief Pinard, Sheriff Koutoujian announce the completion of interactive, scenario-based training

Littleton Police Chief Matthew J. Pinard and Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian announced today that 21 Littleton police officers recently completed interactive, scenario-based training utilizing the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center (MTC).

The training was conducted Feb. 27 through March 3 in Littleton.  Over the five days, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that focused on responses to both business and residential settings, as well as calls where mental health was an underlying factor.  These scenarios allowed officers to focus on the effective use of de-escalation and communication skills.  In addition, officers also participated in an active shooter scenario.  Following each scenario, Littleton PD officers and trainers discussed and assessed the responses.

“The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office is proud to once again partner with Chief Pinard and the Littleton Police Department to make this vital training available,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “By facilitating this interactive, scenario-based training, we are helping officers reinforce skills and techniques that are critical to effective policing – particularly around communication and de-escalation.”

“The Littleton Police Department can’t thank Sheriff Koutoujian enough for the use of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Training Center.  The scenario-based training gives our officers a hands-on approach, bringing their skills to the next level,” said Chief Pinard.

In 2022, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office worked with 29 agencies to facilitate training through the MTC including the Arlington, Burlington, Lexington and Malden Police Departments.
