Wayland PD & MSO announce the completion of interactive, scenario-based training

Press Releases Posted on September 17, 2025

WAYLAND, Mass. – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian and Wayland Police Chief Ed Burman have announced the recent completion of interactive, scenario-based training for members of the town’s police department.

The training was completed during the week of September 8 in Wayland utilizing the MSO’s Mobile Training Center (MTC). 24 Wayland officers participated.

During the training, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that replicated situations they may encounter on the job. This included traffic stops, trespassing, and active shooter scenarios.

“Our Mobile Training Center was designed to give officers practical, hands-on experiences that are a direct reflection of the calls and challenges they face in the field,” Sheriff Koutoujian said. “Wayland officers were able to practice their decision-making in real time, ensuring they are more well-prepared to keep their community safe.”

“We appreciate the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Koutoujian's partnership by providing the Mobile Training Center and staff to assist the Wayland Police Department with additional training.  This training and technology will give our officers an opportunity to see how their decision-making skills are during a critical incident,” Chief Burman said.  “The officers were even put through scenarios where they would have to use their de-escalation tools. It is partnerships like this that teach us how to work together to better serve our communities.”
