92 Medford police officers recently completed interactive, scenario-based training facilitated by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO).

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian and Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley announced the training was completed between September 25 – October 6 utilizing the MSO’s Mobile Training Center (MTC).  It marked the fifth consecutive year the agencies collaborated on the training.

“This realistic, interactive training program offered by the Middlesex Sheriff's Office is an incredibly valuable resource for our officers,” said Chief Buckley.  “It provides them with hands-on training in tactics and de-escalation, giving them the skills to keep themselves and our community safe.  Our department does not underestimate the importance of quality training, and we are grateful to the Middlesex Sheriff's Office for providing our officers with this opportunity each year.”

During the training, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that replicated situations they may need to respond to on any shift.  This included responses to domestic violence calls, suspicious vehicles and calls for individuals in mental health crisis.  Officers also participated in an active-shooter scenario.

“Across Middlesex County, leaders like Chief Buckley are focused on ensuring officers have access to the most effective and comprehensive training available,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “We are proud to be able to support our law enforcement partners in these crucial efforts.”
