The primary function of the Warrant Apprehension Unit (W.A.U.) is to locate and apprehend fugitives wanted on outstanding felony warrants issued within Middlesex County. The unit also regularly receives requests for assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. These requests are considered are a priority. In 2016, W.AU. members made, or assisted in, 347 arrests on charges lodged by over 80 agencies.
Additionally, the unit coordinates and performs criminal renditions and extraditions, working closely with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. In 2016, the unit successfully returned 15 wanted fugitives to Massachusetts to face charges.
