Warrant Apprehension Unit

The primary function of the Warrant Apprehension Unit (W.A.U.) is to locate and apprehend fugitives wanted on outstanding felony warrants issued within Middlesex County. The unit also regularly receives requests for assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. These requests are considered a priority.  In 2022, W.AU. members made or assisted in 214 arrests for individuals wanted on more than 670 felony charges and another 400-plus misdemeanor charges.

Additionally, the unit coordinates and performs criminal renditions and extraditions, working closely with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.  In 2022, the unit successfully returned 19 wanted fugitives to Massachusetts to face charges.
