The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team is comprised of an elite group of deputy sheriffs trained to respond to barricade/hostage episodes, and/or suicide intervention, initiate service of high risk warrants, group demonstrations and riots within the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction and in the community providing mutual assistance to other law enforcement entities.

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office established SWAT in 2000. Since the inception of SWAT all prospective members of the team must pass a rigorous selection process before earning a position on the team. All members of the team are required to participate in specialized SWAT training on a monthly basis and must remain in top physical condition in order to perform the duties required.
