The Lowell Office of Community Counseling is a collaboration of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Commissioner of Probation. Opened in 2002, Lowell OCC – as it is known – allows for alternative sentencing to help address overcrowding and to offer non-violent offenders the chance to succeed through intermediate sanctions.
A key element to reducing recidivism is through offering aftercare and a continuum of care. Probation officers and counselors at Lowell OCC provide guidance to clients and continue these services post-incarceration.
- Some programs and services offered through Lowell OCC are:
- Random drug testing
- Public health awareness
- Adult Basic Education classes
- Higher education counseling
- Job development and resource referral services
