MSO IN TRAINING...
The 34th Basic Training Academy

Week 7:
Captain Randall Witts arrived at the training academy on Monday morning to teach front office/central control.
The recruits also got the chance to learn about the emergency level identification system taught by Deputy Thomas Maloney. They covered how to respond in specific emergency situations. Emergencies were also covered in first responder with Officer Crowley. He talked about what to do in medical emergencies and also took a further look at body systems.
Dr. James Spencer taught cultural diversity while Deputy Kenneth Silva taught Disciplinary Boards. Recruit Andrew Gladyszak specifically liked learning about the process to determine how one is guilty or innocent after reading disciplinary reports.
Joe Blair and Brian Greeley returned for their lessons on constitutional law and communication skills.
Platoon leaders were elected by their classmates this week. For Platoon Alpha, Recruit Michael Vangelist was chosen. As for Bravo, Recruit George LeBlanc was named their platoon leader.
Sergeant Brian Crane and Officer George Balian both taught defensive tactics and baton. This was the first time the batons were introduced to the recruits. They learned different means of defense using both the baton and handcuffs. Alpha Platoon actually got to enjoy Thursday’s nice weather as they practiced their defensive tactics outside. Although painful looking at times, they seemed to enjoy themselves.
“I really liked learning the hands-on techniques,” said Recruit Melissa Elie. Recruit Michael Souza also commented, “I got to see what the inmates actually go through.”
