NATICK —
A Hyde Park man police accused of stealing $10,000 worth of purses from a store at Natick Collection in October was arrested Wednesday.

Alec C. Crawford, 35, of 1131 Hyde Park Ave., is accused of stealing several Gucci handbags from Neiman Marcus on Oct. 22, according to Natick Police.

Police say Crawford arrived at the mall at 5:45 p.m. and parked his Chevy Avalanche outside the store.

Crawford was captured on a security camera walking into the store and directly to the Gucci display, where he grabbed the purses, police said. He then ran out of the store and drove away with the handbags.

Investigators posted still photos from the video on massmostwanted.org, which generated tips.

"Many people saw it and said who it was," said Natick Police spokesman Lt. Brian Grassey. "Another police department also called us and said they recognized him."

Crawford was arrested at his home on Wednesday at 10:35 a.m. by the Middlesex County Sheriff's office.

He was charged with larceny of property worth more than $250. He also was wanted on a Newton District Court warrant for the same charge.

Crawford pleaded not guilty at his Natick District Court arraignment on Wednesday and was released on $1,000 bail.

He is due back in court on Dec. 18 for a pretrial conference.
