Medford -
Sheriff James V. DiPaola hosted a holiday breakfast at Weldon Manor Dec. 19 to thank residents for their hospitality while an inmate work crew completed a renovation project at the facility.
The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Inmate Work Crew began a two-week beautification project on Dec. 8 Weldon Manor, located at 35 Bradlee Road.
The project was undertaken by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Community Work Program, which provides inmate labor to Middlesex County communities at no cost to the taxpayers. This particular project saved the city of Medford an estimated $10,000.
Over the past year, DiPaola has assigned the Community Work Program to complete several projects in Medford, including work for the School Department, Police Department, Department of Public Works and Housing Authority. Overall, the Community Work Program has saved the city of Medford an estimated $92,000 in 2008.
“As we see so often in public safety, it takes cooperation to get the job done. I am proud of the partnership we have with Medford because together, we bring innovative resources to tackle complex issues,” DiPaola said. “The tireless efforts of the Middlesex officers and the inmates help beautify the community, while loosening the financial belt during these tight economic times.”
Food was provided by the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Inmate Culinary Arts Program.
John Grecco of the Medford Housing Authority joined DiPaola for the event.
