Statement of Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian on Appointment to Bipartisan Working Group to Review Criminal Justice System

I am honored to have been selected as a member of the Council of State Governments Working Group and want to thank Governor Baker, Speaker DeLeo, Senate President Rosenberg and Chief Justice Gants for their commitment to improving our criminal justice system in the Commonwealth.
I believe we are well-positioned in Massachusetts to address the issue of criminal justice reform, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Council of State Governments as we review all aspects of our system – from pretrial to re-entry.
I hope my experience as a prosecutor, legislator and Sheriff will inform the conversation in an effort to create a stronger, more equitable justice system.
