Middlesex Sheriff’s Office welcomes two new K-9s

CHELMSFORD, Mass. – The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office formally welcomed its two newest members in a ceremony held Thursday, March 24 at the office’s training academy in Chelmsford.

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian presented badges to Pebbles and Elmo, who join the MSO’s K-9 Unit after having completed 12 weeks of training at Alpha Canis Advanced K9 Training & Care in Weymouth.

“We are pleased to welcome Pebbles and Elmo to the MSO,” said Sheriff Koutoujian.  “Our K-9 Unit plays an important role in not only providing perimeter security and narcotics detection capabilities, but also in assisting our municipal partners with searches for missing persons and suspects.  The addition of these new teams enhances not only our internal security, but also our collaboration with our law enforcement partners.”

Pebbles (a Labrador Retriever) and Elmo (a Dutch Shepherd) are partnered with Officers John Pimentel, Jr. and Michael Seamans – both veteran members of the MSO.  Officers Pimentel and Seamans were selected to join the unit following an extensive screening and interview process.  Officer Seamans is a second-generation handler, following in the footsteps of his late father – David Seamans – who was a K-9 Officer for the Lowell Police Department.
