On July 26, 2003, Massachusetts State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt was assigned a midnight shift, guest patrol at the Bourne Barracks. Trooper Engelhardt was nearing the end of her shift when she had positioned her cruiser in the breakdown lane of Route 25 East in Wareham to follow up her investigation of a collision which had occurred overnight.

Trooper Engelhardt's cruiser was struck in the rear causing her to suffer life-threatening injuries.

Trooper Engelhardt has endured many surgeries and intense rehabilitation. Despite the devastating injuries she's suffered, surrounded by family and friends, she continues to fight.
